Six things that change what an app costs
For the full explanation, read our practical guide to app development costs.
Platforms
One codebase for iOS and Android keeps costs down. A separate web app or admin portal adds to the build.
Features
Payments, live tracking, chat and AI each add design, development and testing time.
Design
A clean ready design system is faster. A fully custom design takes longer but fits your brand exactly.
Integrations
Connecting to your POS, ERP, CRM or payment provider depends on how open those systems are.
Languages
Arabic and English means right-to-left layouts and translated content, planned from the start.
Launch and support
App store publishing, hosting and ongoing updates are planned with you and quoted clearly.

The prices above cover designing and building your app. Plan for these running costs too.
App store accounts
An Apple Developer account at US$99 a year and a one-time US$25 Google Play registration, both in your company’s name.
Hosting and services
Servers, storage and push notifications are billed monthly by usage. They start small and grow with your number of users, plus SMS or email if your app sends them.
Payment and app store fees
Payment providers such as Stripe or Moneris charge a fee on each transaction. If you sell digital content or subscriptions inside the app, Apple and Google also take a commission, usually 15% to 30%.
Support and updates
Updates for new iOS and Android versions, bug fixes and improvements. We plan support with you and quote it clearly before launch.
How to keep your app cost down
Four ways to spend less upfront without cutting what matters.
Start with a first version
Launch the core of your idea, test it with real customers, then add payments, dashboards or AI in later phases. A starter app begins from $15,000 CAD.
One app for iPhone and Android
We build one codebase for both platforms. In our estimator, the second platform adds $3,000, not the cost of a second app.
A clear scope before work starts
Our written proposal sets the scope, timeline and price first. Having your content and decisions ready on time keeps the project short.
Funding for innovative work
Some app projects include work that may qualify for SR&ED tax credits or NRC IRAP funding. We can split your project into phases and keep clear technical records; your accountant confirms what qualifies.
App cost: common questions
How much does an app cost in Canada?
Most apps we build cost between $15,000 and $110,000+ CAD. A starter app starts from $15,000, a business app from $36,000 and an advanced platform from $65,000, before taxes and third-party fees.
How much does it cost to make an app for iPhone and Android?
A starter app for both iPhone and Android starts from $15,000 CAD. We build one codebase for both platforms, so in our estimator the second platform adds about $3,000 rather than doubling the price.
How much does a booking app cost in Canada?
A simple booking app costs about $24,000 to $36,000 CAD, and a full booking app with payments and a team dashboard about $36,000 to $54,000, before taxes.
How much does it cost to add AI to an app?
AI features, such as an assistant that answers from your own data or document reading, add about $9,000 to $13,500 CAD to the range, depending on what the AI needs to do.
Are there costs after the app launches?
Yes: an Apple Developer account at US$99 a year, a one-time US$25 Google Play registration, hosting that grows with your users, payment provider fees, and support for updates and fixes.
Do your prices include tax?
No. Our prices are in Canadian dollars, before taxes, app store fees and third-party services.
Can app development qualify for SR&ED or IRAP funding?
Sometimes. Routine development with known methods usually doesn’t qualify for SR&ED; work that resolves a real technical uncertainty can. NRC IRAP supports innovative projects at incorporated businesses. Talk to your accountant, and contact IRAP before starting work you want funded.
How long does it take to build an app?
A starter app takes about 6 to 10 weeks, a business app about 10 to 14 weeks and an advanced platform about 15 to 20 weeks, depending on features and how quickly content and decisions are ready.
Can I start small and add features later?
Yes. Many clients launch a starter version first to test the idea, then add payments, dashboards or AI features in later phases.
Do you build apps in Arabic and English?
Yes. We build bilingual apps with right-to-left Arabic layouts, for businesses in Canada and Saudi Arabia.
