Working together

How we work with Toronto clients

Our team is in Ottawa, and GTA projects run smoothly on video calls. Here is what that looks like.

A free call, then a written proposal

We learn about your idea on a video call, then send the scope, timeline and price in writing before any work starts.

Regular reviews of the real app

You approve the screens before development, then see the app take shape at each review, in phases until launch.

Tested on real phones

We test on iPhones and Android phones of different sizes, then publish to the App Store and Google Play for you.

Your code, your accounts

The source code, app store accounts and hosting are set up in your company’s name, so you are never locked in.

Plan ahead

Ontario rules to plan for

Three things worth deciding at the start, not after launch.

Accessibility (AODA)

Organizations with 50 or more employees in Ontario must make their public websites and web content meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA. We can design and test your app and web app against those guidelines from the first screen.

Privacy (PIPEDA)

Apps that collect customers’ personal information are generally covered by PIPEDA, and health apps may fall under Ontario’s PHIPA. We plan consent, data storage and account deletion into the design.

French for Quebec customers

If you also offer your app in Quebec, its French-language rules generally mean offering a French version, so we plan both languages from the first design.

Questions

App development in Toronto: common questions

How much does it cost to build an app in Toronto?

Starter apps start from $15,000 CAD, business apps from $36,000 and advanced platforms from $65,000, before taxes; scope and features set the final price. We send a written proposal after a free call.

How long does it take to build an app?

About 6 to 10 weeks for a starter app, 10 to 14 weeks for a business app and 15 to 20 weeks for an advanced platform.

Do you work with clients in Toronto and the GTA?

Yes. Our team is based in Ottawa, Ontario, and works with businesses in Toronto and across the GTA on video calls, with regular reviews of the app as it is built.

Do we have to meet in person?

No. GTA projects run on video calls: a free first call, design reviews and progress reviews until launch. You can reach us at +1 (647) 354-2887.

Do you build for both iPhone and Android?

Yes. Most apps we build run on both from one codebase, with Flutter or React Native. When an app needs to be fully native, we build it in Swift for iPhone.

How do you price an app?

After a free call we send a written proposal with scope, timeline and price, based on platforms, features, design and integrations. Our estimator gives you a typical range in two minutes.

Which payment providers do you integrate?

We integrate Stripe, Moneris and Apple Pay, and connect your app to the POS, ERP or CRM you already use.

Who owns the code and the app store accounts?

You do. The source code, App Store and Google Play accounts and hosting are set up in your company’s name.

Can you add AI features to our app?

Yes. We build assistants that answer from your own data, document reading and smart search into iOS, Android and web apps. See AI app development.

Does our app need to meet AODA accessibility rules?

If your organization has 50 or more employees in Ontario, your public websites and web content must meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA under the AODA. Many businesses apply the same standard to their apps, and we can design and test against it.

Can app development qualify for SR&ED or IRAP funding?

Sometimes. Routine development with known methods usually doesn’t qualify for SR&ED; work that resolves a real technical uncertainty can. NRC IRAP supports innovative projects at incorporated businesses. Talk to your accountant, and contact IRAP before starting work you want funded.

Do you offer support after launch?

Yes. We handle updates, improvements and technical support after launch, on a support plan agreed with you.
